June 1942. Sevier County, Tennessee. "Construction of Douglas Dam, a Tennessee Valley Authority project." Acetate negative by Arthur Rothstein. View full size.
Good photo of Linn "HafTrak" tractors at work. They were the mainstay of loggers, miners, and construction companies in the first half of the 20th century. Often they were used on road construction in the summer and snow plowing in the winter. Built in Monroe, N.Y., these tractors could handle a 50 percent grade. The founder of the company first developed his tractor to pull his small dog circus show into rural areas.
