Circa 1905. "State bath house and pavilion, Revere Beach, Massachusetts." 8x10 inch dry plate glass negative, Detroit Publishing Company. View full size.
I'm guessing that the codfish weather vane here is the same one that's now on the State Police building up the street (see Rough Riders 1905).
A blizzard in 1978 damaged or destroyed Revere Beach's pavilions, sidewalks, the sea wall, and the clock. Most of it was restored in 1992.
I agree with the previous comment that the clock is present but is only hinted at by its shadow in the left lower corner. However the previous image of Revere Beach shows the clock in the distance before the pavilion.
[The shadow at lower left is from the streetlamp seen here at far right, not the clock. The clock itself is visible here at the other end of the pavilion. - Dave]
I stand corrected, thank you both!
The two boys in the foreground -- one on either side of the gaggle of umbrella-shielded ladies -- are they twins? Because the one on the right looks slightly older to me, but that may be an illusion. At any rate they're dressed identically and are poised nearly identically, each looking to his left with his right hand to his mouth. Young inquisitive/indecisive cuties from long ago.
Just noticed that the clock, just visible in this photo, is also still there next to the pavilions.
