October 1908. South Bend, Indiana. "Going home to lunch! Two boys from Singer Manufacturing Company. Small boy is Charles Bailey, 316 Scholum Street. Is he 14 years old?" View full size. Photograph and caption by Lewis Wickes Hine.
Charles Bailey (listed as bro-in-law of married sister Emma Cocquyt?) says he's 16 in the 1910 census of Dist 184, South Bend Ward 6, St. Joseph County, Indiana. But in two years, he's moved up in the world and is now working in a plow factory. However the two older sisters are sewing in a shirt factory. Parents were from Belgium if that portion of the census is accurate.
