Children asleep on a bed during a square dance in McIntosh County, Oklahoma. Photograph by Russell Lee for the Farm Security Administration Office of War Information, c. 1939. View full size.
Reminds me of my kids. Worn out after a hard day's play. Realize that the oldest of these kids would now be about 75 years old, and have grandkids of their own.
Little man's green fancy pants make me smile.
Love the photo, especially the little girl with her eyes wide open. She is like I was: "I'm not sleepy!" I remember laying down with the coats when my parents took me to a party, and my kids doing the same when they were little.
By the way, "The Farm Security Administration Office of War Information"? Were they in charge of protecting farms in case of war? We weren't at war in 1939. And how would this picture help? Maybe Lee just thought the kids were cute.
