This is Mike, one of many so-named dogs owned by my Great-Grandparents, out back of their house in Iola, Kansas, sometime around 1930.
Mike was some sort of bull terrier breed who my great grandfather bought from a junk yard man named "Sting-Eye" Allnut for the sum of fifty cents. The dog poses next to a pump which drew rain water from a cistern; I'm told my great-grandmother, who had beautiful blond hair, preferred to wash her hair in the rain water because it was much softer than the well water which came out of the indoor plumbing. Many thanks to my cousin Carl who filled in the details about the photograph for me!
