Pier side observations

The two flats were owned by small railroads, the Detroit, Toledo & Ironton and the Florida East Coast. In the background we see another flatcar set up as a spacer car to keep the locomotive from putting any weight on the ferry bridge.

Under pressure

You can clearly see the spring compression on the loaded flatcar compared to the not so loaded car. This is a simple way to tell if a train car is heavily loaded or not.
