The Edgewood Arsenal is part of the Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland. The Arsenal was the site of human experiments involving chemical warfare, vaccines, drugs, and even psychochemical warfare. These experiments lasted from 1948 to 1975. More than 7000 soldiers were exposed to various chemicals and drugs. The program ended amid scandal and accusations of unethical practices. Lawsuits followed, some as recently as the late 2000s.
My father served in the Army during WWII. He used to tell me stories of watching some of his platoon mates getting "sick" in their masks during these drills. The greatest generation ever.
