But now it's rather revitalized and genteel...still not the bevy of activity as shown in 1941...and no doubt Hay Street had its share of less than savory activities then, with all the servicemen passing through.
It's a shock to see this place when it was thriving. We moved from Charlotte to Fayetteville in '66. I have very few memories of downtown being a place people actually wanted to go! By the early 70's it was all hookers, adult bookstores and topless bars. By the late 70's it was the worst kind of Urban Wasteland.
