January 1914. "Second Annual Washington Automobile Show, Convention Hall." National Photo Company Collection glass negative. View full size.
In 1929, an electrical short started a fire at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Since the show was housed in a tent, everything was destroyed. Estimates of the loss ran to $2 million. Fortunately, there were no serious injuries.
Where are all the women in evening gowns and high heels extolling the virtues of these fine automobiles? Don't they know it's the only way to attract buyers?
The Hillman crew forgot to clean up their area. And not a trash can in sight.
I was surprised to see this British brand in an American car show. Hillman started out in the sewing machine business, being hired on as a skilled engineer. He became wealthy and invested his millions in next ambition, to be a car producer.
[The sign says PULLMAN, not Hillman. - Dave]
The Cole Motor Car Company was based in Indianapolis, Indiana and produced cars from 1908-1925
The Marmon Motor Car Company was also based in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Chevrolet needs no introduction.
I have no idea what the * ing brand is.
[King. - Dave]
The brand signs on the left side of the aisle are upside down compared to the brand signs on the right side of the aisle. Only someone with OCP would notice that like a huge wart on the nose.
The roof of the Convention Hall was destroyed by fire on March 1, 1946 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_Liberty_Market). Before the fire this same space was occupied by bowling alleys, as seen on https://www.shorpy.com/node/8066.
Where the heck is the fire marshal?
And what color would you want your car in?
