"1954. Mike's 7th Birthday." First scan from a big box of red-border Kodachromes we got on eBay. These seem to be from a family in Wisconsin. View full size.
We had the same one in Minnesota in the '50s. Good to see it again!
I really like this photo for lots of reasons (that could be me in the highchair) but what struck me most was the great-looking wooden casework and finishes on the windows and trim in the background. And look at the shine on those window handles! I'm guessing that given that and the Formica counter and trim in the foreground that this must be a fairly new home.

Ice for the kids' drinks meant a special occasion, in this case happy Mike's 7th birthday. Say, who remembers the metal ice cube trays with the removal lever, which came, of course, with the fridge? If you did not loosen the cubes with a quick rinse first, you might clumsily bend or even break the metal handle, which would not make Dad happy.
Check out Mike's argyle socks peeking out from under the table!
Kool Aid Kool Aid Tastes Great! A 50's and 60's jingle. Strawberry or Cherry always one of my favorites.
