March 1940. "Medicine Bow, Wyoming." Generic medicine, evidently. Photo by Arthur Rothstein for the Farm Security Administration. View full size.
Medicine Bow was the setting for the TV series, and I presume the Owen Wister novel. Wonder if he and Trampas ever shot pool here?
I doubt this Brown's hotel was mentioned in the song, "Atchinson, Topeka, and the Santa Fe," since Medicine Bow was served by a branch line of the Union Pacific.
The pool hall (located at the corner of Street and Avenue) appears to have an outdoor pool, as well.
Perhaps it is not named Paradise for a reason.
You don't suppose, do you, that we're looking at the same Brown's Hotel as that mentioned in the '40s standard "Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe"?
