Although it had a name that appears sinister, 666 went by the name "Three Sixes" in radio and TV advertising. It's currently shown as unavailable at Amazon, and apparently a different formula. The contemporaries of 666 were brands like Father John's, Creomulsion (I've tasted that - awful stuff), and Black Draught.
Didn't go over well with cold remedy focus groups, so they shortened the name to 666.

This business was so impoverished that they could not even afford a coat of inexpensive whitewash (calcimine) to dress up their street front.
Whitewash is a traditional "site-mixed" paint made of slaked (hydrated) lime and chalk. This is probably the least expensive of all paints.
