San Francisco, 1921. "Belgian ambulance -- REO Speed Wagon." A gift of the people of Nevada. 5x7 glass negative by Christopher Helin. View full size.
As I'm Belgian, I'm able to say, 95 years later: "Thank you, people of Nevada!"
I wonder what that REO ambulance became over here. Not sure the REO brand was sold in Belgium, so it must have been a rare sight. It would be nice to find it, still rolling along.
My great grandfather, also Andrew Harper, was a motor bus operator in and around Edinburgh & Peebles in the 20s & 30s. He had a few REOs (ruins every operator?) and in this view you can see the petrol filler cap right in front of the 'Walkerburn' destination sticker.
The other bus is a Thornycroft with the same petrol filler cap position...
Peering over a tank full of gasoline was commonplace up into the early thirties. Most numerous would be the Model A Ford.
