Delaware County, New York, circa 1902. "Ulster & Delaware R.R. station, Fleischmanns, Catskill Mountains." Somewhere between Pixley and Willoughby. 8x10 inch dry plate glass negative, Detroit Publishing Company. View full size.
Just wondering why my comment didn't make the cut. I commented where this photo was taken (at intersection of Depot Street, Depitts Lane, and Fleischmanns Heights Road, facing easterward) and apparently it wasn't interesting enough to include but this comment made it?
"Well, Fleischmanns is certainly cute, but I'll take a through ticket to Willoughby!"
July 12, 1903:
"Mr. Carl Herrmann of New York, while giving a morning salute with a small cannon at his Summer cottage, blew the end off one of his fingers."
Another item of "fresh excitement" was the suicide of "young Jacob Haas, because of a disappointment in love."
I see a missed opportunity for collaboration.
Well sort of: the Delaware and Ulster RR excursions pass over this same track. The station itself doesn't survive but the freight depot which is just out of the picture to the left is still there.
Well, Fleischmanns is certainly cute, but I'll take a through ticket to Willoughby!
I see that packing light and carrying on your luggage was not quite the vogue of the day in the early 1900s.
[Families who spent whole summers at Fleischmanns to escape the heat of New York City needed to pack accordingly. -tterrace]
