We had an all-male squad when I was in high school (45-50 years ago), but the "cheerleader" moniker had been tossed. Not sure if that was specifically due to the feminine connotations or not.

My father was a cheerleader at Western State Teachers College, now Western Michigan University, in 1931-32. That group was male-only as well. Here's my question: When did cheerleading become predominately female? Not that I'm complaining...
