New York circa 1948. "WCBS studios, 49 East 52nd Street." Broadcasting in AM and FM. 4x5 inch acetate negative by John M. Fox. View full size.
The CBS Studio Building at 49 East 52nd Street, shown by Wikipedia seems to be quite another building.
[It's the same building; the Wikipedia article you've linked to explains the difference in appearance. -tterrace]
Studio 9 was the famed location that was busy during WWII handling transmissions from such luminaries as Edward R. Murrow, Eric Sevareid, William Shirer, and H.V. Kaltenborn. For those old enough to remember the latter, his staccato delivery perfectly fit the sound of his last name.

CBS was airing that well known programme 'The Missus Goes a-Shopping', one of the first live TV game shows, hosted by John Reed King from various New York supermarkets.
Beginning in 1939 the nine-story "CBS Studio Building" was converted from the Vanderbilt family guest house. There were seven studios including one seating 300 for the Arthur Godfrey Show. All CBS soap operas originated here until their final episodes in 1960.
In the 1980s CBS leased the building to Sony for recording. In 1988, a Duane Reade store was built (in area of double doors on left in photo). On the second floor there is wall display showing the radio history at 49 East 52nd.
In 1995, new owners renovated the building, with facade resembling the original guest house.
I'd like to see another picture of that building. That's a big wall not to have any windows in it.

Here it is in my neighborhood. Taken 2009 Tri-X 35mm.
