When ugly fluorescent lighting and acoustical tile ceilings replaced the attractive though admittedly less efficient light fixtures that still exist at this date. It must have been towards or in the early 40's when design was becoming really dreary and industrial looking.
If they could only see what files and folders have morphed into today.
