They look like weevils. The one on the left being the lesser of two weevils, of course.
Of course I can't tell, but the plug on the ceiling might be the then-common Hubbell tandem (seen at left in my photo), or it could be any of a dozen or more competing styles, such as the decidedly unsafe Cutler Hammer plug at right. In the early 1920s, the standard parallel type was gradually winning the day.
