"Music Man" star Shirley Jones in 1961 with her kids, the future pop icons David and Shaun Cassidy. Photo by Earl Theisen for the Look magazine article "The Good Life of a Hollywood Bad Girl." View full size.
I recently had the pleasure of meeting Ms Jones at a Police Department function. She and her husband, Marty Engels, are big police supporters. Even though I was one of the honorees, I was more excited to meet this wonderful performer. She was not only beautiful but also very gracious. Time has been good to her. I don't believe her talents were "wasted" on the Partridge Family, though. That was a time when stars like Ms. Jones were mostly out of favor. If nothing else, it kept her in the public eye and, equally important, employed.
and it appears Shaun was attempting to "smile" for the camera, but as is common at that age, it came out as more of a grimace.
I have a DVD of "The Music Man" with extra features. One of the best bits is when Shirley reveals that she was pregnant with Shaun during the filming of the movie. Robert Preston was baffled by the kicking, and the wardrobe department had its own challenges!
-- what's with Shaun? Is he about to have a tantrum?
Shirley was a bad girl because, depending on the date in 1961 when this photo was snapped, she either had just won or was about to win an Oscar for playing a prostitute in "Elmer Gantry."
How about that, it's a victrola with an electric motor to spin it.
(edit: I wish I typed better)
Shirley Jones is a wonderful entertainer whose talents were wasted on "The Partridge Family" TV show. Ms. Jones was always very easy on the eyes too.
