From its Web site: "The paper, published by the Greenbelt Cooperative Publishing Association, Inc., was established in 1937 as a volunteer organization shortly after the construction of Greenbelt, one of The New Deal Green Towns. It has been published weekly without interruption since that time and is delivered free to all Greenbelt residents."
Volume 1, Number 1 was dated November 24, 1937, and one story opened with a hint of summon all villagers to bring flaming torches: "Tonight the citizens of Greenbelt will forsake their children, their dirty dishes, and homey firesides, and march en masse to…" read more here.
