She looks like she has lots of it inside her face. That, and the bone structure, is necessary for good resonance magnification of the sound produced by the vocal cords. At least I think so. It has been almost three decades since the end of my short, but sweet, opera career.

I've always found it hard to imagine what a woman would look like when an author describes her as "almost pretty." I will now think of this lady. She's so close, but something's not quite right (besides her friends), and I honestly don't mean that in a mean way.

These odd little animal figures were made in Nancy, France, by the factory of Emile Gallé, better known for its art glass and marquetry furniture, from about 1890 to 1910. Gallé's ceramics decorators were permitted considerable leeway in details on the individual models, but the heart pattern on the cat is the most familiar and pricey in today's auctions.
