Located in Santa Monica Canyon, California. Good food and for some reason one of their specials was frog legs. View full size.
This is the Toed Inn after it was moved out of Santa Monica Canyon -- it was in the great flood of 1938 and moved after that up toward Los Angeles proper on Wilshire Boulevard in Westwood. When they moved it, that's when it was enclosed. Here's a photo of how it looked when it was in its original location in the canyon; it was an open side stand.
I can imagine Addie Loggins and Moses Pray eating here!
They do point in. We also had the Glider Inn in Seal Beach, with a large propeller mounted above the entrance.
I don't recall ever seeing a cursive "a," even a stylized one, looking quite like that, so I speculate that the establishment is, for a reason known but to the proprietor and now lost in the mists of time, a pun on "toed in," and further represented by another, visual, pun: a toad.
