I like the way the shoes are neatly stashed under the car. The lady seems to be very happy. If they came from 35 degree New York to 60 degree Florida, I'll bet they enjoyed it just fine.
These people are experiencing the following: simply being outdoors; the piquant zest of seashore air; relaxation; radiant warmth of the sun while minimizing direct exposure; companionship; beautiful scenery; peace and quiet. Sounds awful, doesn't it?
On most cars during the 40's and at least early 50's, helped keep the cars tolerable in the summer before air conditioning.
That's a pretty-looking 1940 Oldsmobile. As for the tourists, they look chilly. The picture must have been taken during a cold snap.

Boy, were they in for a big change in December of 1941! They will be glad to have the new car and new tires. Look at the height of that antenna! You can see the photographer reflected in the bumper.
