That’s what comes to mind / nose when I think of creosote.
I've passed by it many times in my 50 years living in the region. Not far from downtown Beaumont, it's now an EPA Superfund site. It leached nasty stuff into the nearby creek (and, from there, into the Gulf of Mexico) for decades.
