Oakland, Calif., circa 1957. "Wrecked taxi at school crossing." Note the crossing guard at right. Featured players in this curbside drama include a 1957 Chevy, Plymouth taxicab and (yet again) 1953 Buick, supported by a trio of 1955 and '56 Ford police cars. 4x5 acetate negative from the News Archive. Looks like Foothill Blvd and 22nd Ave.

Thought I'd try to Google Map it but there's not much to go on.
Thank you for pointing him out, Dave. This was in the days before adults did the job, when kids at school performed the task as safety patrols. I was a patrol in Winnipeg in Grade 6 in 1969 (age 11), half of a duo which belonged to a squad of five or six pairs of students (all boys) sent to cover key intersections around the school. We served before and after classes and at lunch hour. The work was voluntary and we all vied for Patrol of the Month (the prize was a pen). We stood at the intersection in the at-ease position, and when we escorted a kid across the street we strode out into the middle of the road, one on each side of the kid, and faced traffic, with one arm out horizontal and the other wagging behind us in a go-this-way motion. We wore a white waist belt with a diagonal belt slung over one shoulder. You positioned your cool patrol badge on the diagonal part, at chest level, just so.
I count at least nine cops at the scene of the accident, I wonder what the turnout would be for a bank robbery?
Nope, the horizon's off. I wondered why everybody was leaning.
At least I'm pretty sure the Harley is a panhead. The time frame is about right for that engine style.
